1) Black-hat hackers
2) White-hat hackers
For my understanding, black-hat hackers is the one who will not stop on what they're doing, because they're the smart people who have no moral doubt on destroying computer infrastructure, they are so excited on penetrating system, bringing down network and take what does not belong to them, these action gave them so much "fun".
In the other hand, white-hat hackers is the one who break into systems that dont necessarily destroy them. They're also known as "good-hackers" or "ethical hackers", which means hackers that have moral value. White-hat hackers are the one who break into systems to point out security flows or bring attention to a cause.Their intention are not to damage the systems, but to do a public service. White-hat hackers hired by actual computer security company or government agencies. They have their jobs to do. Their jobs is to hack into company's network to find flaws, so that the company can prevent their information or system hacked by the black-hat hackers.
Other than that, i found out that Tim Berners-Lee Berners-Lee is undeniably a member of the white-hat hacking camp. He was once caught caught hacking to gain access to restricted areas when he studying in Oxford University. He moved on and built his own computer from spare parts.
Since his creation of the World Wide Web, Berners-Lee founded the World Wide Web Consortium at MIT. Berners-Lee became the first holder of the 3Com Founders Chair at MIT, where he is a senior research scientist.
Besides, the concept of hacking entered the computer culture is at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the 1960s. From this, i can see that the history of "hackers" are actually have some relationship with MIT.
